HOW LEVELS WORK
A starting point, not a verdict.
An external rating only helps choose your first puzzles. It does not become an official or permanent Brain Rot Chess rating.
New to chess
You begin with a guided five-puzzle lesson around level 700. No personal rating is assigned until there is enough evidence to make one useful.
Know the basics
Five placement puzzles create a provisional estimate. It becomes more meaningful as you complete later sessions.
Existing rating
You can enter a Chess.com rapid or puzzle rating, a Lichess rapid or puzzle rating, or choose “Other” and use placement. Ratings from different sites and game types are not directly equivalent, so the number is treated only as a starting point.
After each puzzle
Correct solutions can move your estimate upward and unsuccessful puzzles can move it downward. Puzzle difficulty, attempts, and the provisional nature of the estimate all matter.
